Back...

from a super fun vacation. A couple weeks ago, we packed up, sent Daniel on a plane with Abby to Seattle to drop her off with his family, and then we were off on our adventures in the East. We met up (without child) in Washington DC and we did it all my friends: The White House, The Capitol, Mount Vernon, Monuments, Georgetown, Old Town Alexandria, Smithsonian Museums, Arlington National Cemetery, Library of Congress, Eastern Market (the yummiest breakfast ever).

After our non-stop adventure in DC, we jumped on a plane and headed to NYC. And we did a lot. Not all, because in order to do all of NYC, I don't know, you'd probably have to be there for a few years.

But that didn't stop us from trying: Brooklyn Bridge walk at sunset and Grimaldi's Pizza (mmm, the best pizza), the Staten Island Ferry for some picturesque views of the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, Ground Zero, Madison Ave (for the best children's clothing shopping, sigh here), Times Square, West Side Story on Broadway,

Bryant Park where they were setting up for Fashion Week, Parsons School of Design (fashion design school where Project Runway use to take place), Mood Fabric (the most amazing fabric store ever!!!!, another long sigh here), a taping of David Letterman, the US Open (that's Venus Williams in the background, we also got to see Rafael Nadal play), the Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda (she came out to say hi and thanks for the posters!)...

All you New Yorkers out there, don't throw stones, but I missed Central Park and the Met. Good excuse to go back soon though.

To end our trip, we flew to Rochester NY and drove to Palmyra. It was the perfect way to end things. After all the crowds and noise, we were able to attend the temple, walk through the Sacred Grove, see some of the sites where the gospel was restored including the Smith Farm, the Whitmer Farm, The Book of Mormon publishing site, and Hill Cumorah.

Super loud shout out here to my buddies who gave me the best ideas for where we should go in DC and NYC: D, Nicole, Natalie, and Bek. Super duper loud shout out to our parents for making the whole trip possible. I have a extremely generous and amazing parents and in-laws. Thank you, Thank You!

Oh, and while traveling I read Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It DID NOT disappoint. I read it in less that 36 hours. It was fabulous. You have to read it. It was better than the first, and the first was good. Real good. Read, read, read.

Ah, that really brought back the memories, but I had 2 1/2 years to see all those things. I've been thinking that I need to get some family members to Palmyra, especially Keith who I was dating last time I was there and he was in Marine Basic School, so couldn't go along. I think Joy, Enoch and family and Adam and family need to go too. Oh, and Mercy's children. Palmyra's a special place!

Sounds like so much fun. You have never had a vacation until you have taken one sans child! I LOVE your bangs btw.

Meet Daniel and Brittany

The challenge that began with "Have a nice life, Daniel Burton" is progressing with favorable results. Surviving and thriving on lively discussions about books, Abby, or the post-grad school world, the Burtons show signs of excellent health and familial success.

Dan and Britt met on a hot July 4th in 2005. Shortly after inviting her to join him for a panoramic view of the Independence Day fireworks, and not long after her denial, Daniel and Britt agreed to break the ice over ice cream. They soon realized that they were both book geeks, decided a permanent union was worth evaluating, and were married just over a year later on another beautiful July day.

After graduating with a law degree from both he and Brittany's alma mater's rival, Daniel is corporate counsel at the Woodbury Corporation, a commercial real estate management and development company in Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, and far more interestingly, Brittany is raising a new generation of Burtons as full-time mother and family creative director. Abby is two and a half, and #2 is on the way, with arrival expected in late June of 2011. The Burtons look forward to many years of exploring canyons, creeks, and mountain tops, swapping novels, notes, and ideas, and enjoying great discussions about people, politics, and their family.

Daniel and Brittany are both graduates of the 2002 class of Brigham Young University. Abby is gunning to graduate from diapers, sooner than later.
