Halloween Fashionista

For those of you who know me well, you're aware of how much I love Halloween. This is somewhat ironic considering I refuse to watch scary movies and one of my earliest memories is of me praying that I would NEVER see ghosts, even good ones (that prayer occurred shortly after hearing the Joseph Smith first vision story for the first time). Despite my fears of the paranormal (I watch episodes of X-Files now and wonder how I was able to be such a fanatic in college), I just love Halloween. It's the combination of fun costumes, bright Halloween colors, and CANDY!

I think I saw the new lines of Halloween fabrics in the quilting stores as early as mid-August and as soon as I saw those irresistible prints, I started my dreaming and scheming. That would be dreaming and scheming about Abby's Halloween wardrobe.

I made these two pairs of pants over the course of a couple afternoons. It was a very easy pattern, but took a little bit longer to execute considering Abby's schedule: Wake up from nap. Happy time = Mom can sew time. Fussy time = "Mom, I want some quality attention from you!" Stop sewing time. Feeding time. Happy time = "You can sew again for a little while." Fussy time = "I'm tired and ready for another nap." Nap time = A little more sewing time for mom.

I was about to sew a Halloween dress for Abby until my mom put her foot down and said, "You are not making her a Halloween dress!" My mom hates Halloween. I think she has PTSD from staying up all night on many October 30th's, sewing us Halloween costumes. She hates Halloween, except that she adores Halloween because it means she can indulge in one of her favorites: wax lips. She eats them--like literally chews and swallows the wax.

I considered spending a small fortune on Gap and Old Navy Halloween onesies until I found some $3.00 gems at Wal-Mart (thank you underpaid workers from third-world countries and thank you Mom for purchasing most of them).

Abby's Halloween fashions wouldn't be complete without matching 'pretties' for her hair, as her cousin Avery calls them. And with those 'pretties' in her hair, Abby is ready for the runways of witch's & ghoul's gatherings worldwide. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

super super cute...I wouldn't expect anything else from you. I love that you spend time on her outfits. It is something you LOVE and it is something she will love to look back on and enjoy the pictues. I really do love how your personality comes out through Abby's outfits. Isn't that the purpose in having children? Great post...fun post...take a look at my Halloween post...I have a lot of pumpkins on mine. My roommate taught me to carve pumpkins.

I just posted a long post on your blog and it didn't show up...it must have erased...let's try again...I LOVE that your personality comes out at Halloween like this. God gave you Abby to do whatever you want with her until she chooses for herself. She is going to LOVE looking back on these pictures and laugh and smile at how cute you were to spend so much time on her and making her look good for Halloween. You are such a GREAT mom.

My wife is crazy about Halloween. Fortunately, I am not completely sane myself. With parental units like that, Abigail hasn't got a chance.

Meet Daniel and Brittany

The challenge that began with "Have a nice life, Daniel Burton" is progressing with favorable results. Surviving and thriving on lively discussions about books, Abby, or the post-grad school world, the Burtons show signs of excellent health and familial success.

Dan and Britt met on a hot July 4th in 2005. Shortly after inviting her to join him for a panoramic view of the Independence Day fireworks, and not long after her denial, Daniel and Britt agreed to break the ice over ice cream. They soon realized that they were both book geeks, decided a permanent union was worth evaluating, and were married just over a year later on another beautiful July day.

After graduating with a law degree from both he and Brittany's alma mater's rival, Daniel is corporate counsel at the Woodbury Corporation, a commercial real estate management and development company in Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, and far more interestingly, Brittany is raising a new generation of Burtons as full-time mother and family creative director. Abby is two and a half, and #2 is on the way, with arrival expected in late June of 2011. The Burtons look forward to many years of exploring canyons, creeks, and mountain tops, swapping novels, notes, and ideas, and enjoying great discussions about people, politics, and their family.

Daniel and Brittany are both graduates of the 2002 class of Brigham Young University. Abby is gunning to graduate from diapers, sooner than later.
