Growing Baby

We just got back from a family vaca in Newport Beach, California. Thanks to my dad for making it all possible! Dan is now aspiring to someday buy us a beach house in Newport where we can chill for most of the summer. I'm all aboard. Dan says getting a beach house is meant to be more of a money making venture, but I'm pushing for summers on the beach.

Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures of us hanging out at the beach. I don't know what I was thinking, oh wait... I was thinking, "OK, I just fed the baby, I've got about an hour til she gets fussy and needs to take a nap and about two hours until the next feeding." I wasn't actually able to spend much time down at the beach cause it was just difficult with Abby, but I do wish I had a picture of Dan in the ocean. He's a mean boogie boarder!

Abby is now 6 weeks old! And I am glad because those first few weeks were pretty tough on me, but things are becoming more do-able. I had Abby weighed at 5 weeks and she was 8lbs. 5oz. She's been feeding so much today, I'm wondering if I'll wake up tomorrow and find that she grew a foot in the night. Here are some pics:

Dan and I have decided that she's got the 'deer in the headlights' look down pretty well. Seriously, every time I go to take a picture of her, the first shot always looks something like this...

Abby is well on her way to becoming a beach bum with these hot shades we got for her...

Dan is masterful at getting Abby to smile. She sure loves her daddy.

He also has special magic skills that are used to get Abby to sleep (pictured to the right). One of the magic tricks he shared with me that he likes to use is to hold her eye lids shut with his fingers.

All in all, we've decided that our little Abby is a keeper.

Mucho thank-o. She is so adorable. Little blondie, blue eyed.

I was dying to see her. Now I just have to hold her in real life.

This girl is a knockout! It's amazing (and often unfortunate) how fast they grow.
Hope everything is going well for you guys.
Things are going great out here and we are loving Wisconsin. If you ever want to make a Chicago trip, we'd love to have you.

Meet Daniel and Brittany

The challenge that began with "Have a nice life, Daniel Burton" is progressing with favorable results. Surviving and thriving on lively discussions about books, Abby, or the post-grad school world, the Burtons show signs of excellent health and familial success.

Dan and Britt met on a hot July 4th in 2005. Shortly after inviting her to join him for a panoramic view of the Independence Day fireworks, and not long after her denial, Daniel and Britt agreed to break the ice over ice cream. They soon realized that they were both book geeks, decided a permanent union was worth evaluating, and were married just over a year later on another beautiful July day.

After graduating with a law degree from both he and Brittany's alma mater's rival, Daniel is corporate counsel at the Woodbury Corporation, a commercial real estate management and development company in Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, and far more interestingly, Brittany is raising a new generation of Burtons as full-time mother and family creative director. Abby is two and a half, and #2 is on the way, with arrival expected in late June of 2011. The Burtons look forward to many years of exploring canyons, creeks, and mountain tops, swapping novels, notes, and ideas, and enjoying great discussions about people, politics, and their family.

Daniel and Brittany are both graduates of the 2002 class of Brigham Young University. Abby is gunning to graduate from diapers, sooner than later.
