Daniel is a Guitar Hero...

Britt caught Daniel playing a face melting solo while playing with his garage band. What? You didn't know Daniel played with a band? Obviously, you've never been hiding in the back seat of his Honda when he's driving in the car. If you had, you would know.

Really, though. Let's be serious. This is no joking topic. Many people go through their whole lives dreaming about becoming a juke box hero, with stars in their eyes. Whole social classes, namely teenagers, suffer bad hair cuts, endless rejection, years of callused fingers, damaged hearing, teen angst, and decades of psychological treatment all in service to the dream of living in the lime light. And despite the blood, sweat, and tears, most of us dreamers will never have the best of both worlds. For those who do, there are the groupies. And for the rest of us...

... for the rest of us there is Guitar Hero. Also, Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. At least, for those of us who never had the chance to wow the crowds with power chords, to smash a guitar at the finale, or, in the words of Mr. Jack Black, to stick it to the man...

Case in point: last Saturday, Britt and Daniel stumbled upon a loose guitar, and Daniel was transformed into a rock legend. It didn't take long for Daniel to get in touch with his inner Eddie Van Halen...

And the girl next to me? That's fellow band member Madi "Axel Rose" Bowen. We're going on tour next year, after the baby arrives. We don't really have a name yet, but were thinking something like "Red Electric Squirrels." What do you think?

Oh, and here's another of me playing my face melting solo:

Notice the red eyes. Daniel wears red contact lenses to match the University of Utah baseball cap. The contacts glow especially red when the pyrotechnics explode from the back of the stage. Britt won't let Daniel practice with the pyrotechnics because she thinks its dangerous.

Rock on, complete, with some brand new components. How do you enjoy your rock and roll life style?

Besides, who really wants groupies anyway? Kids are far more fun.

Love this post!! I need to post some of Joseph and the boys playing guitar hero. Colin loves it, I have even found him pretending to play the guitar with his bat in his room. And making up his own songs.

Meet Daniel and Brittany

The challenge that began with "Have a nice life, Daniel Burton" is progressing with favorable results. Surviving and thriving on lively discussions about books, Abby, or the post-grad school world, the Burtons show signs of excellent health and familial success.

Dan and Britt met on a hot July 4th in 2005. Shortly after inviting her to join him for a panoramic view of the Independence Day fireworks, and not long after her denial, Daniel and Britt agreed to break the ice over ice cream. They soon realized that they were both book geeks, decided a permanent union was worth evaluating, and were married just over a year later on another beautiful July day.

After graduating with a law degree from both he and Brittany's alma mater's rival, Daniel is corporate counsel at the Woodbury Corporation, a commercial real estate management and development company in Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, and far more interestingly, Brittany is raising a new generation of Burtons as full-time mother and family creative director. Abby is two and a half, and #2 is on the way, with arrival expected in late June of 2011. The Burtons look forward to many years of exploring canyons, creeks, and mountain tops, swapping novels, notes, and ideas, and enjoying great discussions about people, politics, and their family.

Daniel and Brittany are both graduates of the 2002 class of Brigham Young University. Abby is gunning to graduate from diapers, sooner than later.
