Wowi! Talk about dysfunctional family. Unfortunately this book was pretty believable as it relates to the lifestyle of some of the families I work with at a Residential Treatment Center. The book certainly helped me understand and sympathize for some of my “treatment girls”.
Nanny Diaries was a fun, quick read: brain candy per se. It tells the story of a college-aged young woman who finds work as a Nanny for a very wealthy New York City family. “Nanny,” the actual name in the book for the protagonist, has to juggle college classes, the self-absorbed and demanding mother who makes ridiculous requests for her son, the distant and cheating dad, and the surprises dad’s mistress throws into the mix. I know God has commanded us to multiply and replenish the Earth… but this book is evidence that there are some people out there who just shouldn’t have kids. The book made me appreciate my own upbringing and parents even more than I already did.
I recommend this one, but it’s not at the top of my recommendations list. As a word of caution: this book has some inappropriate language in it.
