I solemnly swear that I am up to no good...

There's nothing surprising about this post: Jo Rowling's seventh and final book in the Harry Potter epic, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released at midnight on Friday, and we bought it...rather, 16 copies of it. Although thirteen were for girls at Brittany's facility, we did buy two for ourselves and one more for the Bowens. All this buying for others was not completely altruistic: the University Bookstore had the low price of $18.88 and a free $5 gift card for every book. We walked out with 16 of those and plans to purchase one of my law books with them.

As for the book, we find ourselves sufficiently satisfied and more than a little disappointed that we don't have more time to read it. We read aloud to each other while making batches of cookies and shopping for storage containers and shelves around town. As we got in the car again after each stop, we would crank up the AC and open up Harry Potter.

Finally, last night around ten we lay down the book for a few minutes while we continued our seemingly never ending quest to write the 'thank you' notes for our wedding. Almost a year has passed and we have yet to complete them. But it did not lay down long. After bedding down and reading our scriptures, we could not resist opening the book back up again to finish one more chapter.

ON A "SHORTER" NOTE: you might see that something is different about Brittany, in the picture above. Yes, she's donated her lovely locks to "Locks of Love." Fortunately, they will grow back. Unfortunately, I don't have a spell to help them grow faster...

I am going crazy!! I wanted to read book six again before starting seven and it has taken me longer than I thought. I keep thinking I will just skip to seven but I really want to finish six again. I hope you are enjoying it. I can't hardly wait. By the way, Brittany, your hair loooks great.

I totally agree with Sierra! Cute hair Britt! Must be much cooler in the heat of the summer. I started the 7th book and had to admit that I was a bit lost. So I am now reading the 6th book and Zac is reading the 7th. Good thing too because I had forgotten so much. Britt...love that shirt. Where can aquire such a shirt?

I just wanted to say that I got your thank you note. It's no wonder it took you so long to do them. It was a very nice little note. By they way, I am going to look into "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the Happy Birthday comment. Isn't it funny that with all of technology, we know each other better, without even seeing each other? I have never met Brittany, yet from reading your blog, I feel that "Wow, my cousin married an amazing woman." Keep up the postings, I love to read about your lives. :)

Meet Daniel and Brittany

The challenge that began with "Have a nice life, Daniel Burton" is progressing with favorable results. Surviving and thriving on lively discussions about books, Abby, or the post-grad school world, the Burtons show signs of excellent health and familial success.

Dan and Britt met on a hot July 4th in 2005. Shortly after inviting her to join him for a panoramic view of the Independence Day fireworks, and not long after her denial, Daniel and Britt agreed to break the ice over ice cream. They soon realized that they were both book geeks, decided a permanent union was worth evaluating, and were married just over a year later on another beautiful July day.

After graduating with a law degree from both he and Brittany's alma mater's rival, Daniel is corporate counsel at the Woodbury Corporation, a commercial real estate management and development company in Salt Lake City. Meanwhile, and far more interestingly, Brittany is raising a new generation of Burtons as full-time mother and family creative director. Abby is two and a half, and #2 is on the way, with arrival expected in late June of 2011. The Burtons look forward to many years of exploring canyons, creeks, and mountain tops, swapping novels, notes, and ideas, and enjoying great discussions about people, politics, and their family.

Daniel and Brittany are both graduates of the 2002 class of Brigham Young University. Abby is gunning to graduate from diapers, sooner than later.
